Balato - Creature Concept

The Balato's rock-like hide acts as its primary defense and facilitates camouflage with its earthy habitat; this is particularly critical, as its rotund frame makes it rather sluggish and clumsy. It curls up to protect its face and fleshier underbelly.
Less vigilant field explorers who fail to watch their feet would quite literally stumble upon the Balato. The creature is thus frequently considered a tripping hazard.
